"We appeal to all citizens of Washington, DC, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian and native African, to join in our vision of The Spirit of Black DC. We will spread the word that DC Black history and culture is alive and well in the nation’s capital. Demographic shifts in the city can erode three centuries of Black history, culture and presence in DC. With the decline in Black population comes the withering away of Black businesses, home ownership, clubs, schools, churches and institutions that created the Black Mecca of America. Many new settlers to the city try to understand this history. Some do not. So we must inform them. Not to remember the courage, struggles, victories and accomplishments that African American people achieved in our nation’s capital would be more than sad, it would be unforgivable." Learn More
